The Full Story
Mink Taylor
Mink is an artist living amidst the lush temperate rainforest of BC's coast, on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Years of work as a nature-connection and ancestral skills educator has led her to a deep connection with the land, from which she draws inspiration for her work.
Mink's original paintings explore the boundaries between real and perceived, symbolic and magical. Each piece is an insightful portal into the wild soul, unfolding in tandem with the natural beauty of the wooden canvas.

Artist Statement
I've always had a sense that the world is alive and full of magic.
I've felt this since a very young age, and I have never been able to shake it, despite what the "dominant cultural narrative" might be saying and years of schooling that attempted to reinforce that.
I am driven by a curiosity about the stories of humanity that we carry. Where do the stories we hear come from, and are they true? What do they tell us about our place in the more-than-human world? How do these stories shape our understanding of what is possible? What magic might we truly be capable of, and can we wield it responsibly?

My work explores themes of healing, reclamation, belonging, and ancestral wisdom.
The imagery and medium invites viewers into a story of humanity that honours our sacred relationship with ourselves and the more-than-human world.
I am inspired by experience in my life in which I have felt like I touched, witnessed, or experienced something magical. I love the way these moments challenge my beliefs about what is possible. These often happen in liminal spaces, deep in nature, or in the wilderness of my own soul.
Drawing great inspiration from nature, I use mixed media paints and occasionally found-objects from the forest in my works on wood slabs. My creations are a collaborative process in which I work with the unique shapes already present in the wood grain, and allow them to inform the subject matter and composition.
